I've lost 120lbs and learned so much along the way.
My relationship with weight and dieting started long before I was old enough to understand what diet culture was. I was around 8 years old when I went on my first diet, and one of my earliest memories of that experience was receiving an Easter basket from my parents that included a Dance Workout With Barbie video instead of candy. Looking back, it's hard not to recognize how early I learned that my body was something I needed to change. Those struggles followed me through my teenage years and into adulthood, with years of dieting, losing weight, and trying to find a way to make it all work. In August 2022, I had vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) bariatric surgery, which became a major turning point in my journey.
As I entered my 40s, I began to realize something that changed the way I looked at my entire life. Losing weight was never the only challenge. I had spent decades living in the clutches of diet culture, believing that the number on the scale determined my success, my worth, and how I felt about myself. I realized that what I truly needed was to rebuild my habits, change my relationship with food and movement, and step away from the constant obsession with my weight. I wanted to learn how to care for myself in a way that felt sustainable, realistic, and compassionate. I'm still learning, growing, and figuring things out along the way, but I've come to believe that lasting change isn't about chasing perfection. It's about building healthier habits, one small step at a time. And I know I'm not the only person who has struggled with this.
Inspired Wellness grew from that same desire to make healthier living feel more approachable and sustainable. Now, through this website, my app, my YouTube channel, and my monthly newsletter, I want to share practical insights, personal stories, and encouragement around mindful eating, gentle movement, and healthy habit building. Because you don't have to change everything overnight to change your life. You just have to start somewhere, take it one step at a time, and remember that you deserve a healthier relationship with yourself along the way.
That's why I created the Inspired With Sara YouTube channel and the Inspired Wellness app. I wanted to share my real-life experiences, the lessons I've learned, and the ups and downs of navigating life after significant weight loss. My hope is to help other women and men who feel stuck in the same cycle of dieting, frustration, and feeling like they're never doing enough.
